Cricket is
played with a ball and bat by two teams of 11 players. Teams take turns
trying to score runs. The exact origin of cricket is unclear. It was
played in England in the 1200s and it had become popular there by the
late 1600s. The London Cricket Club is given credit for developing the
rules of modern cricket In 1744. The Marylebone Cricket Club, which also
dates to the 18th century, is Cricket's governing body.
